Lindy Hop, the original Swingdance
The Lindy Hop is a couple dance in the Afro-American jazz-dance tradition. During the Swing era (the '30s and '40s) it was danced to swing played by the greatest musicians of all times such as Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday and Chick Webb.
The dance was named after the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh, who in 1927 made the so-called «hop» over the Atlantic in his «Spirit of St. Louis». Today, the Lindy Hop is experiencing a real boom both in Europe and the rest of the world.
Lindy Hop stands for freedom of movements, improvisation and dancing to music. The Lindy Hop is not only the grandfather of Rock'n'Roll and the father of Boogie-woogie, but also many hip hop, funk and streetdance steps have their origin in the Lindy Hop.
